Mason off to Beijing
By
James Clarke July 7th, 2008
Nanoose Bay high jumper Mike Mason has been named to the Canadian track and field team bound for the Beijing Olympics.
Mason, 21, recently defended his Canadian title at the Olympic trials in Windsor, Ontario, finishing first in a field of 13 with a jump of 2.21 meters.
The amiable but fiercely dedicated Oceansider joins Nicole Forrester, 32, from Ontario as the only two high jumpers named to the national team.
At the pressure cooker in Windsor, Mason finished first out of a strong field of 13 that included University of Toronto track star Mark Dillon, who had jumped the second highest in Canada this year at 2.25m.
