Coombs fire fighters after a life-saving unit
May 9th, 2008
COOMBS - District 69 masters softball players issue a challenge to other local organizations to match their donation of $300 to the Coombs-Hilliers Volunteer Fire Department effort to raise funds for the defibrillator.
Earlier this year the department held a Dine for a Defibrillator event with profits earmarked to purchase a much needed piece of lifesaving equipment at a cost of $4,000. One defibrillator has now been purchased and the hope is to raise enough money for a second one as well as the training required for the firefighters who will be using them.
Local softball players recently stepped up to the plate and presented the CHVFD with a cheque for $300.
"The community support has been wonderful,"said Aaron Poirier, who accepted the donation. Men 40 or better and women 35 or better of the District 69 Masters Softball League raised the funds at last year's Fun Day Sunday.
"Anyone in the community might need the defibrillator one day, it's a good thing to have,"said treasurer of the league Dagmar Fence.
The Masters Softball League challenges other local non-profit organizations to match their recent donation to make a second defibrillator purchase a reality.
