Burn piles out of control on Larkdowne

Workers clearing brush on a Dashwood property got more than they bargained for Thursday when they went to burn the large piles of slash.
The fires got out of control, necessitating the response of five pumper trucks from two separate fire stations and attendance from the Coastal Fire Centre.
"Several slash piles got out of hand,"said Dashwood volunteer fire department Chief Nick Acciavatti of the fire involving about one acre of land along Larkdowne Road near Hwy. 19A.
Acciavatti said as many as 20 fire personnel were involved.
"A contract tree service crew had a water tank on site, which assisted with the initial knockdown,"he said, adding roughly 6,000 gallons of water and perhaps four hours of labour would be required to ensure the area was clear.
"This is the second brush fire we've had in two weeks."
Acciavatti said the property owner contacted the fire department about their burn plans and had permits.
