OCP change sparks meeting
By
Neil Horner July 7th, 2008
Steve Vogel believes it's better late than never, at least when it comes to expressing his concerns about the impending OCP review for rural Area G.
The View Road property owner said he's deeply concerned about the OCP's proposal to increase the minimum lot size to 20 acres, meaning he won't be allowed to put a second residence on his investment property.
"When I bought the property, in good faith, the minimum was six acres with an existing residence, which allowed you to put a second residence on the property. This bylaw will remove that and negatively affect me quite dramatically."
Not only would the OCP impact on him, he said, but also on all other property owners in Area G.
He admits there have been numerous meetings about the proposed OCP, none of which he attended, but after hearing about the proposed changes, he plans to make sure he is front and centre at the next meeting, slated for Columbia Presbyterian Church on July 9, starting at 7 p.m. Not only that, he wants to make sure his neighbours show up as well.
"If you have a parcel under 20 acres, you won't be able to put a second dwelling on it, and everyone is going to lose if that is put in place,"he said.
